Sulawesi - Alor - Komodo - Bali
Week 1
Starting in Bira South Sulawesi,
We will start with some diving around Bira with some
check dives, our final dive before leaving is the
cape a deep wall dive that’s often affected
of strong currents so it will be done as a drift dive.
The cape in its prime is a true world class dive,
here we often spots big numbers of white tip sharks,
mantas, mobulas, eagle rays, tuna and giant groupers
this is also where se have good chance of seeing hammerheads
and even sunfish.
After Bira we sail east, a days sailing and we come
to Wakatobi. This is a famous dive destination for
the filthy rich the only dive center around is Wakatobi
divers with some of the highest bungalow prices is
Asia.
The diving around Wakatobi has rich coral gardens
with rich macro like pygmy sea horses and mandarin
fish. Wakatobi have numerous of known dive sights
but the most of the areas is still unexplored we will
go to the outer rims and see what we can find.
Week 2
Open sea passage, 2 days at sea with no land and we
arrive at Alor, There is some great dive sights around
Alor like Cals dream as number one. This dive sight
is legendary since Cal Muller rated it as the best
dive in Indonesia in the dive Indonesia guide.
We also take a couple of days in the waters south
of Alor doing some whale safari.
This is the whale richest water on the planet and
it’s possible to see everything from blue whales,
sperm whales and orcas to dolphins in big numbers.
Whale watching is a time consuming activity and we
will have to test our passion to make this successful.
Week 3
Komodo
This is some of our home waters, here we sill mix
diving with trekking the hills of Komodo and Rinca
looking for the infamous komodo dragons. The diving
in Komodo is breath taking. We find compact coral
gardens with intense macro variations and big pelagics
like giant travelly, dogtooth tuna, sharks and mantas.
8-knot currents rave true the straight of komodo witch
make the diving very interesting but with good planning
the current helps us getting more out of every dive.
It's a magic felling hiding behind ”batu bolong”
and seeing the wild current bringing sharks and mantas
pass you just a couple of meters from you’re
face.
Komodo have over a hundred mapped dive sights but
we will focus on the best once like Batu bolong (hollow
stone), cannibal rock, manta alley and crystal boomie.
Week 4
Leaving komodo behind we head for Sangean a huge volcanic
mountain island with a harsh north shore with black
lava beaches.Under water the rough coast turns into
a psycadelic coral world with some of the most intense
underwater colors I’ve seen, the final is the
volcanic black sand bottom on the safety stop that
lets gas threw, turning the sea to champagne! Next
stop is Moyo, we make a refreshing land tour to the
waterfalls, and dive Hajis reef, Satonda and Pelagic
magic on Medang.
Our final destination is Gili Trawangan north of Lombok
where we do some diving for the mortals and getting
a well deserved sailor’s night out in the bars
of Trawangan.
